Boston Basin

Me and Eddie.  Eddie is one of the co-director's for 3 Summits and taught me the mountaineering skills I know.  We headed to the North Cascades to attempt Sahale Mountain.  Frustratingly, we left our crampons in the car thinking that the ice would be melted enough by late morning to climb without them.  We were wrong, and ended up traversing for a couple hours (in an attempt to summit from the South Face) before calling it quits.  A spectacular place to spend the night nevertheless.  I was not particularly thrilled about the biting horseflies.  The trail to the Basin is a primitive, unmaintained 'climber's trail'; my first experience on such a trail.  There was some bushwacking involved, as well as an interesting stream crossing.
September 3 and 4.   Boston Basin is located in the North Cascades National Park, near Marblemount.  Permits are significantly limited; three parties per night are allowed in the area.  We left Seattle at 5 AM to get to the Marblemount Ranger Station by 7.  By the time we arrived, there was already a line of about ten climbers.
